Hey my friend,
I’ve spent most of my career working in social media.
I built brands on it.
I spoke about it on stages around the world.
I even wrote a book called The End of Marketing about how the internet was changing the way businesses connect with people.
So trust me when I say this…
Social media had a great run.
But the advantage it once gave marketers is quietly disappearing.
During my time at GetResponse as their Brand Evangelist, I had the opportunity to work closely with thousands of businesses using email marketing.
And one thing became very clear.
The companies actually making money online weren’t relying on social media alone.
They were building email lists.
At some point along the way, the entire game changed.
First, brands showed up.
Then algorithms showed up.
And now AI has shown up.
Which means the internet has become what I like to call a noisy digital ocean.
Everyone is competing for the same thing: attention.
And if you're relying on algorithms to reach your audience, you’re essentially renting attention.
Email is different.
No algorithm.
No feed competition.
Just you and the reader.
An email address is someone’s digital DNA.
They need it for Amazon.
For Netflix.
For work.
For banking.
Social media platforms may come and go.
But email addresses aren’t going anywhere.
That’s why the smartest marketers aren’t chasing followers anymore.
They’re building lists.
Welcome to Inbox Gold.
This newsletter is where I’ll share things like:
• simple email marketing tips
• how to start a newsletter
• how to grow your subscriber list
• how creators and businesses turn email into revenue
If you’ve ever thought about starting a newsletter but didn’t know where to begin, I’ll show you how.
And if you already have one, I’ll share ideas to help you grow it.
Two platforms I often recommend for starting a newsletter are Kit (formerly ConvertKit) and Beehiiv.
Both make it incredibly easy to launch a newsletter while giving you full control over your audience.
If you're curious, I also recorded a short podcast episode expanding on this idea called “Social Media Is Dead.”
You can listen on Spotify or Apple Podcasts.
Quick question for you:
Do you currently have a newsletter?
Just hit reply and tell me yes or no. I’m curious.
(I read every reply.)
Talk soon,
Carlos
P.S. If you don’t have a newsletter yet, that’s okay — in the next few issues of Inbox Gold I’ll walk through exactly how to start one from scratch.
